Gentle Note Privacy Policy

Gentle Note is a private reflection journal for eating disorder recovery. It does not require an account and does not upload your journal, library, intakes, media, preferences, or trusted contact to a server controlled by the developer.

Information stored on your iPhone

Journal entries, template answers, library notes, tags, intake context, photos, audio, video, preferences, and an optional trusted contact are encrypted on your iPhone. App files use iOS file protection and are excluded from backup by Gentle Note.

Camera, microphone, photos, and files

Camera and microphone access is requested only when you choose to capture or record media. Photo and file selection uses Apple’s system pickers, which transfer only the items you select. Gentle Note does not request access to your complete Photos library or Contacts.

Authentication

If you enable App Lock, Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode authentication is handled by iOS. Gentle Note receives only whether authentication succeeded and never receives your face, fingerprint, or passcode.

Export, sharing, links, and calls

Nothing leaves the app unless you deliberately export or share content, open an external support website, start a call, or open Apple Messages for your trusted contact. An exported file is controlled by the destination you choose and is no longer protected by Gentle Note. External services and recipients apply their own privacy practices.

No developer collection or tracking

The app contains no developer backend, account, advertising, analytics, crash-reporting SDK, attribution, tracking, social feed, or AI service. The developer cannot read, recover, or remotely delete your private content.

Retention and deletion

Content remains on your iPhone until you delete an item, erase all data in Settings, or remove the app. Temporary decrypted files used for playback or export are protected and cleared by the app. Hiding a section does not delete its content.

Support email

If you email support, the developer receives the address, message, and attachments you choose to send. They are used only to respond and retained only as long as needed for support or a specific legal obligation. Do not send journal entries, meal photos, passwords, payment details, or other sensitive information.

Changes

This policy will be updated when the app’s shipped data practices or legal requirements change.
